My recommend: Lenovo Ideapad Y510p

Lenovo Ideapad Y510p

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 caused quite a stir when it was introduced some time ago. The 15 ” multipurpose system offered a second Nvidia GPU as an option. The new IdeaPad Y510p has upgraded the hardware and now has a GeForce GT 750M SLI instead of a GeForce GT 650 M SLI. Can a portable dual-DirectX 11 threaten established competition from the high-end?

The Lenovo Ideapad Y510p features Intel Core i7-4700MQ and NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M SLI dedicated graphics card.

The Intel Core i7-4700HQ is a top notch laptop quad core processor. It uses the Haswell structure and is made in 22nm. Because of hyper threading, each of the cores can work with as many as 8 threads in parallel, which will lead to an enhanced use of the CPU.

The way that the Core i7-4700HQ performs is much better than others such as a Sandy Bridge processor. This is basically because of the enhancements that have been made. It performs just like the Ivy Bridge based Core i7-3740QM

The NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M SLI is a top notch graphic choice that can be used with laptops. It has two GeForce GT 755M that are equipped with cards that have a 28nm GK107 core that is founded on the Kepler architecture. This means that each card will have a single frame or AFR mode. So, it might have a little bit of a stutter when used in low fps ranges that are lower than 30fps. This occurs due to the fact that there are different time spans between the 2 frames. This could also be for things such as unusual stops between frames that are right behind one another.

The GT 755M SLI has the same performance as the GeForce GTX 770MX or GTX680, but this will depend on the speed of the clock and how the memory is configured. Based upon the game that you are enjoying, there might be plenty of differences, which could also be based upon how well the SLI scales are performing. All in all, the most recent games can be enjoyed in 1080p and other high settings.

Somehow the IdeaPad Y510p covers the range from success to failure. One of the most distinctive factors is without a doubt the Lenovo UltraBay.

The interchangeable Bay allows the user to quickly adapt the laptop to the present task – no matter if this is a Blu-ray movie (insert the optical drive) or to play demanding games (change the optical drive by a secondary GPU).

Despite the emergence of micro stumbling and the dependency of the most recent drivers, IdeaPad Y510p has the makings of a best seller. What other laptop is sold for 1,000 dollars and offers the performance of a system with a graphics GeForce GTX 680M or GTX 770M? It would be difficult to stuff more performance into a 15 “- at least if the weight and dimensions are important.

In some areas, the laptop is less than perfect: very shiny plastic parts, high temperatures and a shortish battery life can put off some potential buyers. The spongy touchpad and the inappropriate Turbo Boost also lower the overall score.

On the positive side, the laptop has a Full 1080P HD antiglare display with exceptional brightness. We also like the backlit keyboard, ease in updating and a good sound system. Taking everything into account, the IdeaPad Y510p is an interesting idea and recommended as a multi-purpose portable.

Buying advice:

Each of these five laptops is great for gaming. Every one has its unique advantages. The new Lenovo Y50 features GeForce GT 860M 2GB DDR5 based on Maxwell architecture GPU. It’s performance is similar to the last generation Kepler-based GeForce GTX 770M and  GeForce GT 755M SLI, but it significantly reduces the heat dissipation and power consumption, Currently, it’s the best GPU of all laptops around $1000.

The Lenovo Y510p is another great choice. It features GeForce GT 755M SLI with 2 GB DDR5 VRAM, the performance the similar to the GeForce GTX 770M or GTX680, and most recent games can be enjoyed in 1080p and other high settings.

The ASUS N550JV-DB72T has a touchscreen, which is helpful for use with the Windows 8 system, but its GPU GTX 750M is not as power as the GeForce GT 755M SLI.

In addition to the touch screen, the Acer Aspire V3-772G-9829 has nearly the same specs as the ASUS N550JV-DB72T, but its price is lower by about $100.

The Lenovo Z710 is another great one. It has 16 GB (2 x 8GB) ram, which is enough to run many heavy applications at the same time, but it has the worst graphics card of any of these laptops. If you are not playing demanding games, it will probably suit you well.

Which one can satisfy your needs well? Make your choice!

Hi I was just wondering would this laptop , the Lenovo be capable of running battlefield 4 on high with decent frame rates .

  • Logan Rush

I was wondering if the Acer Aspire will be a good match for the WoW standard and be able to run the graphics on High or Ultra without a big drop in fps or lag return. Have decently fast internet just wanting to make sure that it will render and play well.

Hi ! i need help can someone recommend me a good laptop? I’m thinking about lenovo or toshiba?

I’ll be using it for architecural purposes.(Sketchup, revit, auto desk and etc…)
(and if possible i could use playing sims3 and all of its expansions.)
    possible budget: $500-$750
    Thank you!

  • James

Katherine, I am replying about your comment on buying either a Lenavo or Toshiba… Speaking from experience, i would go with a Lenavo, toshiba is almost unusable. The battery stinks and the computer in general is terrible, AND it is over your budget. Go with a Lenavo

  • Hi , im thinking to buy Acer Aspire V3-772G-9829 , well because it not too expensive. But when i see the ASUS N550JV-DB72T , i see it almost have no different specs with acer except it 15.6 while acer 17.3 inch . So is the size affecting the price of laptop ? And is 17.3 inch is too big ? Just wondering .

  • The lenovo ideapad became my interest since last night . But there are few disadvantage of it . When i see some of user review , they said it heat up and has bad cooling system but they never said how long they play until it heat up . And 2 hours battery life eventhough u are not playing games and just surfing the internet .

  • Well , im kinda confused now. Some of other user said the lenovo battery can last 2 hours in game and 5 hours on normal task .
