Best Gaming Laptops under 600 Dollars 2014

In this page, I list some gaming laptops under 600 or just a little over 600. This amount will not get you a professional high-end gaming laptop, but the specs of these $600 gaming laptops are not bad. All are equipped with AMD A8 or even A10 quad-core processors and a midrange GPU. You also can find an i5 laptop, but its graphics performance will be slightly handicap. Here I will recommend one the best, although it has some drawbacks, but I promise it’s the best laptop under $600 you can find for gaming. I also cited a number of other good laptops; you can select the one that is best suited to your needs.

My recommendation: Acer Aspire V5-552G-X852 Laptop

Acer V5-552G-x414

The Acer Aspire V5-552G-X852 is a multi-purpose laptop that has a great look, doesn’t take too long to boot up and performs well too. It lets you see movies in a smooth manner with its 15.6 inch, 1366 x768 pixel monitor. You can also expect to have good game quality due to its 1024 x 768 resolution. Although the keyboard is what you would expect with a regular laptop, the touchpad is very disappointing.

The all in one touchpad responses pretty good to the touch, but it has to bend quite a bit before it registers the clicks that have been made. Basically, this really isn’t good for the overall user experience.

In addition, if you have become accustomed to having access panels for memory and storage, then you will be disappointed even more. This particular laptop does not have them. So, upgrading would probably be somewhat cumbersome.

Acer has a price under 600 dollars, but it is based upon an AMD A10-5757M CPU that has HD 8750M graphics built in. It also has 8GB of memory, and a 1000GB hard drive (5400 rpm). All of these things are pretty standard, which makes this a good laptop. Most of the test games that we played were done with a 1024 x 768 resolution. You usually don’t find this with most laptops in this price range.

It only takes this laptop about 18.5 seconds to boot up and that is pretty good. The 1080p video plays in a smooth manner, and it has above average speaker sound. When tested according to the PCWorld rundown tests, the battery life turned out to be about 4 hours and 13 minutes total. This is not the best, but it is okay.

The Acer V5 possesses just about any type of connection options and ports that the typical user requires. The right side has the headset jack, SD card slot and a USB 2.0 port. On the left side you will just find one USB 2.0 port and the power button. On the back of the computer, you will see the USB 3.0 port, an Ethernet jack and both the HDMI and converter ports. The converter port has VGA connections for a $25 dongle. This laptop also has 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth technology. The 720p webcam gives you a good picture as well.

This laptop overall is a sturdy laptop that can be used daily. It is more than average in terms of being able to play your movies and games. However, note that the games have to be low resolution ones. Also, remember that the touchpad bends too much. But, maybe you will not find it to be a problem, once you get used to the feel of it. Another gripe that I have about this laptop is that it does not have the accessible panels where you can easily get to upgrade the storage and memory.

We like:
  • Large display
  • Attractive industrial design
  • Better-than-average gaming performance at 1024 x 768
We don’t like:

  • Too much travel in the trackpad
  • Difficult-to-access hard drive bay and memory slots
