If you are running a somewhat tight budget but want to play some video games on your laptop, then you should definitely check out this list of gaming under 500 dollars. By buying a laptop that costs less than $500, it only can play LIGHT games e.g. Minecraft, Runescape, World of Warcraft, Shaiya, and those types of lower-end games, If you want to play some heavy games, you won’t be getting the same kind of high quality graphics in your gaming that you can expect form some higher end laptops. You simply cannot expect to have a good gaming experience with an Intel Core i3 or i5 processor with a built-in GPU. If you consider play playing more intense games like crysis or battlefield to be one of your main priorities, then please choose a professional gaming laptop, you can buy a laptop with an a core i7 and Nvidia GeForce 660M / AMD HD 7970M video card.

Lenovo Z50

Lenovo Z50

Lenovo selected AMD APU’s Kaveri models to use with its new Z50 series. This suggests that Lenovo wants to provide inexpensive options in the $500 price range for its gaming customers. As a result, you will find AMD APUs and GPUs as a part of the new Z50 series. The platform is great for gaming.

The AMD A10-7300, released in June 2014, is a mobile quad core processor that is based on Kaveri architecture and uses a 28 nm technology. It has four cores, clocked at 1.9 GHz and can turbo up to 3.2 GHz– not as high as the A10-5757M which clocks at 2.5GHz to 3.5Ghz and is based on Richland architecture. So, its performance is slightly inferior to the A10-5757M.

In addition, because of its use of 28nm technology, A10-7300 has a very distinct advantage in terms of power efficiency. Its power consumption is only 19W. In contrast, the TDP of A10-5757M is 35W. The A10-7300 is efficient even when unplugged as it will function for a longer period on battery only, in comparison to the A10-5757M .

The Lenovo Z50 features the graphics Radeon R6 (Kaveri) that is integrated in the CPU of AMD A10-7300. It is clocked at up to 533 MHz. The performance is similar to the GeForce GT 720M, but slightly decreased when compared to the Radeon HD 8650G that is clocked at 600 – 720 MHz. Even so, it is enough to play many of the 2014 games smoothly at low or medium settings at resolutions of 1366 x 768 or 1024 x 768.

Acer Aspire E5-551G-T0JN (Around 600 dollars, has the best performance)

Acer Aspire E5-551G-T0JN

This model is priced over $500 (Around $600) and is more like a professional gaming laptop. I recommend it, if it’s within your budget.

Like the Lenovo Z50, it features the same A10-7300 CPU. This attractive model also features a dedicated graphics Radeon R7 M265. It’s difficult to find a laptop in the $500 range with a dedicated GPU. However, the high specs and $600 price tag makes it seem like an affordable gaming laptop. The Acer Aspire E5-551G also has 8 GB of RAM and 1 TB hard drive.

The Acer Aspire E5-551G-T0JN is a versatile notebook. You won’t have a problem doing your everyday tasks such as browsing the web, looking at YouTube and doing regular business tasks on this model. For gaming, the discrete graphics Radeon R7 M265 will give you a good guarantee.

The Radeon R7 M265 is a mid-range laptop graphics card that is based on Mars architecture and 28nm technology. Its core is clocked at up to 825MHz and it has 4GB DDR3 of video memory. Its performance is similar to the GTX 730M, that can play many games smoothly in medium and even high setting. For demanding games, it runs well (more than 30 fps) on low resolutions and detailed settings.

Acer V5-552-X814

Acer Aspire V5-552-X814

If you think the Lenovo Z50 performance does not meet your needs and the Acer Aspire E5-551G-T0JN is out of your budget, then the Acer Aspire V5-552-X814 will be an ideal choice.

It equipped with AMD A10-5757M that based on Richland technology and Radeon HD 8650G integrated graphics.

Since the processor has a higher clock speed, the performance of the A10-5757m is better than the A10-7300. It should perform just as well as a Core i3-2330m (Sandy Bridge). Basically, it does well with its existing games and applications. Its HD 8650G GPU, based upon the clock rate of the 515-720 MHz, should perform 20 percent above the Radeon HD 7660g.

It also has a touch screen version – Acer V5-552P-X404, but its price may appear a bit steep. It is priced at a little more than $600, so for a touch screen laptop, we recommend HP 17-E0xx as an alternative. It’s cheaper and its specs are nearly the same as the Acer x404.

Note: Some Laptops’ price may little more than $500

With the exception of Acer Aspire E5-551G-T0JN priced at about 600 dollars, among the other laptops, the performances of Acer Aspire V5-552-X814 and HP m6-n010dx are extremely similar and their price is very close. I personally prefer the Acer brand, it features a bit better processor; However, the touch-screen of HP m6-n010dx is high enticing, and it is more suitable for the Windows 8 system; So it is a highly good buy.

Lenovo Z50 is a model recently launched by Lenovo, which is provided with a power efficient ULV (Ultra Low Voltage) quad-core processor A10-7300 that using 28nm production technique. Although its performance is no match for that of AMD A10-5750M, it has a markedly reduced power consumption, with only a rated power of 19 Watts, while that of A10-5750M is as high as 35w; a smaller power consumption will lead to smaller amount of heat and can better avoid the occurrence of slow operation and breakdown of the laptops. This point is of tremendous importance to the gaming laptops. The AMD A10-7300 integrates Radeon R6 GPU, whose performance is similar to that of 720M, and it can smoothly operate most of the current games. However, the 8650G’s gaming performance is relatively higher that that of Radeon R6. I think under the circumstance that a laptop’s performance can meet your gaming needs, the selection of laptop with a smaller power consumption is more suitable; and in contrast to the pursuit of the excessive performance, the stability of performance is of a greater importance.

Acer Aspire E5-571G-38VF is another great choice, it features i3-4030U processor and NVIDIA GeForce 820M dedicated graphics card. The performance of i3-4030U is relatively stronger than that of AMD A10-7300, and meanwhile these two feature the same power consumptions; the performance of 820M is similar to that of Radeon R6, but its price is cheaper than that of Lenovo Z50; if you have no preferences to brands, then acer e5 is an ideal option.
