Assassin’s Creed: Unity Benchmark Performance: Radeon R9 290x can’t support it well?

As in previous years, November is a big month for PC gamers. Many of the heavyweight masterpieces gathered here, can be described as an “annual feast.” Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Assassin’s Creed: Unity, and Far Cry 4 have become the protagonist of this year. However, for most PC gamers, their attention is often not only the game itself, but on the graphics card requirements. These are a salient features that differentiate one console players.

Some very demanding games take too many graphics resources are usually be called “card killers.” Every once in a while, a new game comes along that earns this title. This year, it was Assassin’s Creed: Unity. The GTX 680 graphics card that appears in the “minimum requirement” list makes all players intimidated. People will wonder — is this a standard requirement of Native console games after transplant PC, or not fully optimized due to Ubisoft lack of sincerity?

The following article will explore the minimum requirements of the GTX680‘s and the gaming demands on the graphics card.

Graphics Quality: Ultra High

Detailed quality setting

The Graphics option offers five global profiles: “low, medium to High, Very High & Ultra High.” The Ultra High is enabled 4X MSAA by default . Other graphics options also include environmental quality, texture quality, shadow quality and ambient occlusion.

We set the resolution to the most popular setting, 1920×1080, and used the popular high-end Graphics card, on the Ultra High settings. The results of each card is as follows:

A surprise finding was that the previous generation of medium-high end graphics card GTX770 could not achieve a degree of fluency. The minimum performance which was less than 10 FPS opened in “slide show” mode. Even the current single-core flagship of AMD R9 290X’s minimum fps nor to 20. So if you want the graphics card to run smoothly, you should reduce the graphics quality first. Only two Maxwell flagship NVIDIA GTX 980 and GTX 970 can acceptable

After several attempts, we observed that the performance is similar when the global quality is set to Very High and High. So, we tested again under High quality. The results shown above: GTX 770′s minimum fps remains unsatisfactory, while the minimum FPS of R9 290X is far lower than GTX 780, AMD’s card driver urgent need to be improved.

The “Assassin’s Creed: Revolution” is a native console game, and the overall quality is designed in accordance with the function of the Xbox One and PS4. Even if you are transferred to a “low-quality”, the final result is still good, or at least fully playable degree. Are you curious about the speed of the minimum requirements of GTX 680 at low quality?

The average speed was 44 fps, with a minimum of 29 fps–a basic level of fluency. In conclusion, I do not recommend a graphic card that is less than the GTX 760 or GTX 660Ti. For an AMD, the minimum acceptable card requirement would be R9 280, HD 7950.
