The second generation of the Maxwell architecture by NVIDIA arrived mid-September where NVIDIA launched its new 28nm GPU GM204 that powers to the GTX 980 and GTX 970 graphics cards, this 28nm process was not the one expected for the new architecture but due problems with wafer manufacturer TSMC would remain still with a 28nm manufacturing process.

The 28nm that we have today in the latest graphics cards, maybe next year 2015 will advance to 16nm, this manufacturing process will arrive late Q2 and early Q3 2015.

The new 16nm manufacturing process seems that could arrive with the NVIDIA flagship, this is the new NVIDIA graphics card which could be the GTX 980 Ti or GTX Titan II or some other name that the Californian company will think of. So the GM 200 core would have the 16nm manufacturing process so that the launch of the first NVIDIA graphics card developed in 16nm will arrive in the middle of next year 2015.

With the delay of not making the jump from 28nm in this new generation of cards by technical problems TSMC, the manufacturing process to come was 20nm, which seems NVIDIA would jump 20nm directly to 16nm for future graphics cards from NVIDIA ,at the moment we do not know if AMD will make this leap outpacing 20nm.
