Rumor: NVIDIA could skip the GTX 800 Series

A rumor is a rumor, and at the moment we can’t confirm or deny this rumor, but what is certain is that the latest information circulating on the gossip network guarantees that NVIDIA will the GTX 800 series in the next generation of desktop graphic cards. What’s more, they assure that NVIDIA will launch its new Maxwell architecture on November 9th of this year, but before then on September 19th they will announce their upcoming graphic cards.

It’s true that during these last months all the information we received regarding the next generation graphics cards from NVIDIA only talked about the chips (GM204) and not the graphics cards. Which is why we assumed, that they would be following in the same series as they had until now, and we would be talking about the GTX 800 series (GTX 880 and GTX 870), but the rumors latest rumors see to indicate that this is not the case. Instead NVIDIA will skip the previous series and will instead name them GeForce GTX 970 and GTX 980.

Two dates have been circulating regarding the next generation of NVIDIA: theoretically they will announce these new GTX 900 series graphics cards on September 19th and will launch the new Maxwell graphic architecture on November 9th.

They are two dates which seem implausible. Why announce the graphic cards before the architecture? But like we said at the beginning a rumor is just a rumor.
