Today, motherboards with Intel processors sockets have 2 chipsets available, those for series 8 and series 9, this last one, being the latest in the market. However, this launch, less than three months ago, has not caused series 8 to retire. Because of that, there are still motherboards being manufactured that use series 8 chipsets. One case is Gigabyte, who has just announced its new GA-H81M-S motherboard.

This new motherboard with a Micro-ATX reduced format manufactured by Gigabyte has Intel 8 series chipset, the H81. The board has Intel’s 1150 socket, its power is fed by a four pin connector for the CPU and a 24 pin connector for the motherboard.

The GA-H81M-S memory is given by two sockets for the installation of two RAM DDR3 memory modules in DIMM format, able to support up to 16GB of DDR3 memory with a frequency of 1600MHz,and have an XMP profile and dual channel memory architecture.

The storage is given by 4 SATA ports, 2 of them operating at 6GB/s speed while the rest do it at 3GB/s, the expansion slots are few, consisting of one PCIe 2.0 x16 slot for the installation of graphic cards and a PCIe 2.0 x1 slot.

The motherboard’s connectivity will be basic, having two PS/2 ports for keyboard and mouse, D-SUB video output for the use of the processor’s IGP, four USB ports, two of them being USB 3.0, Ethernet connectivity and HD Audio connectors supported by Realtek ALC887 drivers.

For the moment we don’t know when this new Micro-ATX motherboard by Gigabyte will be available in stores or the price it will have.
